Seiko had unveiled a limited edition series of watches to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the popular Gundam anime franchise in 2019. The Gundam 40th Anniversary Limited Editions are a striking tribute to the iconic mecha robots of the series, and feature an array of high-tech features alongside exquisite craftsmanship.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam, Seiko had introduced three new versions of its Prospex line of watches: the SBDB033, SBDX029, and SBDX027. The SBDB033 pays homage to the RX-78-2 Gundam, featuring a white, blue, and red color homage scheme, Earth Federation Army stampings, a GMT function, a "Head Sensor" 12 o'clock bezel marking, a power reserve indicator, and both a stainless steel bracelet and white/red crocodile strap. The Seiko Spring Drive movement sets the SBDB033 apart from the other two models. The unique movement, caliber 5R66 also allows for an incredibly smooth glide motion for the seconds hand, creating a mesmerizing visual effect.
The two Tuna-style watches, MS-06 (SBDX027) and MS-06S (SBDX029) models, are directly inspired by the green Zaku II and Char Aznable's red Zaku II. The green version features Principality of Zeon branding, while the red watch showcases the personal crest of Char Aznable. Both Zaku models are powered by Seiko's 8L35 automatic movement and feature intricate design details that pay tribute to the iconic mobile suits. For instance, the second hand lollipop symbolizes the mechs' signature monoeye sensor, adding to the watches' appeal among fans of the Gundam franchise.
