The idea of “NEW” reissue model watches seems to be popular in watch industries these days. Over the last couple of years, we often see manufacturers release “NEW” reissue watch models to commemorate their watch history and success.

Recently, Citizen released the”Kuroishio 64″, which was inspired by the Citizen Parawater back in 1959. The Citizen Parawater was the very first water-resistant watch from Japan in 1959.

The reissued “Parawater” was named “Kuroshio ’64″, which translates to “Black current”, which comes from the project “Kuroshio 64”, that was apart of a study on the Kuroshio (black current or Japan current) undersea current that flows past Taiwan and the southeast coast of Japan. The number “64”, was the year the study survey took place.

Citizen decided to launched the Kuroshio ’64 in five different models with distinctive dial colors, on bracelet and leather straps. The model with the blue dial is limited edition of 1959 pieces.

The packaging design of the box that comes with the Kuroshio ’64, were also specially designed to commemorate the bright yellow buoy, which was used as a tool for the research project.

The Kuroshio 64′ collection is getting plenty of attention in watch forums. Not only does the watch hold a great sentimental value for being the first watch in Japan to be water-resistant, but one of the key features include a power reserve of 60 hours and hacking seconds functionality.

You would normally expect that the advertised price should be much higher than what it is. The Kuroshio 64’watch collection are available now in various Asian markets. There are no limitation on the Kuroshio 64′ watches, other than the blue dial model, which is limited to 1959 pieces, the year “Parawater” was introduced.
